Abruzzi, Italy
$10.99 750ml $105.50 case

Until his passing, Gianni Masciarelli was one of the greatest winemakers in all of Italy, though his work lives on. This white, with its aromas and flavors of apple, apricot and iris, makes the perfect accompaniment to fresh fish or pasta with seafood and a light butter sauce.

BV Tapestry Internet Special

Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry 2006
Napa Valley, California
$39.99 750ml $383.91 case $28.99 Internet Special ONLY!

Wine Advocate: Robert Parker 93 pts.: The 2006 Proprietary Red Wine Tapestry Reserve (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Flowery, licorice-infused, cassis notes intermixed with forest floor and lead pencil shavings are followed by a layered, impressively built wine with real opulence, lots of red and black fruits, low acidity, and lush tannin. It should drink well for 15+ years.

One of the most dramatic revelations in my California North Coast tastings was the resurrection/renaissance of Beaulieu Vineyard, one of the historic names in California winedom. This was the source of some extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons in the fifties, sixties, and early seventies, but the winery fell on hard times and was sold (it is now owned by the gigantic Diageo company). However, they have come back with a vengeance over the last few vintages. Michel Rolland, the brilliant wine consultant, was brought in to help resurrect the Private Reserve program, and it appears his magic has spilled over onto the other wines as well.

Ridicudeals!

Finca El Origen Malbec
Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
$9.99 2 750ml for $15   $90 case

One of our favorite former Top 12ers, and definitely our best selling Malbec.  It has everything you could ever want in a good $15 wine….for $7.50 a bottle when you buy two, this is a ridiculous deal!

Larry Cherubino “The Yard” Shiraz 2006
South Western, Australia
$29.99 BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!

What should you expect from a single vineyard Australian Shiraz?  One, you should expect a pricetag of $25 to $45 a bottle - and that’s not the only difference that this beauty has from the rest of the pack!  It is a behemoth of a wine, of course, with big fruit, tons of spice and pepper notes, great acidity and a loooong finish, but it also has a wonderful minerality and a bit of pencil lead, and leather notes that make it stand apart.  We opened it last week and it showed great, so we will have it open again, this weekend, for all those who missed out.

Some new brews to try…

February 26th, 2010

Dogfish Head World Wide Stout
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
$8.99 12 oz $182.41 case

The guys at DFH have done something amazing here! On the nose there are big aromas of coffee, roasty malt, chocolate, and hint of sweetness.  On the palate it has that great thick body that you expect from an imperial stout with a bit of sweetness balanced by bitterness, and you would never know it had 18% abv unless you looked on the bottle (or fell over after 2 of them).

Estrella Damm Inedit
Spain
$9.99 750ml $88.40 case

This unique witbier comes from one of Spain’s biggest breweries and was created as “the perfect accompaniment to food.”  Scents of orange, lemon, coriander and a little fruity yeast.  Try it with crabs, seafood, spicy foods, or even soft creamy cheeses.

Brancaia Toscana Tre 2007 has arrived! #10 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2009

February 26th, 2010

We have some great juice on the tasting table this weekend, including one of Tuscany’s most talked about wines, Brancaia Tuscan Tre. We will have some of the 2006 (and maybe some of the heralded 2007) open for tasting (and to sell, of course). The 2007 scored 93 points by the Wine Spectator and was listed as #10 on the Top 100 wines of the year by the same publication. We were offered a shot at this phenominal wine, but only if we bought some of the 2006 vintage. Therefore, we wanted to ask you, please, if you buy some of the ‘07, please buy some of the ‘06. Come in and taste it, so we won’t have to twist your arm too hard! All kidding aside, both are phenominal buys, the ‘06 is ready to drink now, and the ‘07 is a must have for any collector or enthusiast.
