Top 12 $119.95

Agro de Bazan Granbazan Albarino Etiqueta Verde 2011

Rias Baixas, Spain

$18.99 750ml $182.30 case

This is the best Albarino we have ever tasted and well worth the price. The vineyards are located within
sight of the Atlantic Ocean and you can smell the salt air in the wine. This fresh mineral driven no oak
white will match perfectly with shellfish. Steamed Mussels in green sauce would work perfectly.

.

Vina Siegel Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2010

Valle Central, Chile

$8.99 750ml $86.30 case

This juicy Cabernet delivers in a big way. The nose is a mix of vanilla from the French oak intermingled
with red cherry and smoke. The palate is mouth coating with crisp cherry and soft tannins. The finish is
quite long for this bargain red. Start the grill and let’s party!

Steltzner Vineyards Claret 2009

Napa Valley, California

$17.99 750ml $172.70 case

Bordeaux meets Napa defines this lovely, rich full bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
and Merlot. The wine was aged for 22 months in French Oak and exhibits a nose of anise, lavender and
vanilla. The wine is beautifully balanced with firm but not harsh tannins. Roast whole tenderloin and
make serve with herb butter.

Bodega Carmine Granata Malbec “El Libre” 2010

Mendoza, Argentina

$ 7.99 750ml $76.70 case

This yummy red is dedicated to the bicentennial of the Argentine Revolution that began in May 1810. It
is absolutely delicious with that typical nose of juicy red fruit. The wine is fairly soft but with just enough
grip to keep you coming back for more. It won’t turn you into a liberal but it will set you free!

Primaterra Pinot Noir 2010

Delle Venezie, Italy

$8.99 750ml $ 86.30 case

We were floored when we tasted this Italian Pinot with the Rhino on the label. As one guy said it will
stop you dead in your tracks. Quite perfumed with medium body and good length this beauty will go
perfectly with the Costco Roast Chicken.

Matthieu Roux Pouilly- Fuissé  2009

Pouilly- Fuissé, France

$15.99 750ml $153.50 case

Chardonnay from the Macon region is a completely different animal then those from the New World.
Pouilly- Fuissé is the best appellation in the Macon and it shows in this beauty. It is all about balance
here, with a lovely floral nose to the mineral/stony palate to the good acid in the finish. Great Value!

Chateau Bellevue du Galvesse 2009

Lalande de Pomerol, France

$14.99 750ml $143.90 case

The 2009 vintage in Bordeaux was fantastic as exhibited by this supple left bank red. Lots of black cherry
and cassis on the nose is followed by a rich silky palate of black cherry and dark chocolate. The tannins
are soft but evident and the finish is long. The scoop sheet claims 85% Merlot with the balance Cabernet
Sauvignon but we detect some Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Recougne Blanc 2010

Bordeaux, France

$11.99 750ml $115.10 case

The Sauvignon Blanc (75%) gives you grapefruit and green apple and the Semillon (25%) gives you body
and a floral quality. Put it all together and you’ve got a refreshing, rich, summer white that’s the perfect
match with Maryland’s favorite dish, The Crab Cake.

Monte Cicogna Lugana 2008

Desenzano del Garda, Italy

$10.99 750 ml $105.50 case

Made of 100 % Trebbiano, this is quite an elegant white with its silky, slightly salty, pear and green apple
flavors. The bitter almond finish matches up nicely with broiled sea Bass and cold marinated asparagus.
Or you could have it with some sliced apples, grapes, and Aged Asiago cheese. Put a case in your cart.

Foppiano Lot 96 Petite Sirah 2009

Sonoma, California

$10.99 750 ml $105.50 case

The name Lot 96 was chosen to reflect Foppiano’s original roots, dating back to 1896. This is a kind, but
powerful fat, round red with a bright bouquet of blackberry jam and fireplace smoke with flavors of
black currants, added notes of dark chocolate with trailing scents of cedar, vanilla bean and toasty oak.
The finish lingers with that embracing palate hug that only Petite Sirah can deliver. A wine for the gutsy,
classy folks out there, you know who you are.

Quattro Mani Toh-Kai Exto Gredic Vineyard 2010

Dobrovo Brda, Slovenia

$9.99 750 ml. $95.90 case

Here’s a mysterious white from the “Four Hands” people who brought us their wonderful
Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. There are aromas and flavors that are difficult to pinpoint, but let’s try. You’ll
find a hint of mint, clover and mineral notes along with some pear, white peach and floral aspects. The
palate is dry and equally exotic. The mouthful name matches up well to this mouthful of wine!

Jean Pla Pink Cat Rosé Vin de Pays 2011

Cotes de Catalan, France

$7.99 750 ml $76.70 case

We doubt you’ll find a more pleasant rose out there at this low price. Comprised of 60% Syrah and 40%
Grenache, it is quite dry with a beautiful pink color and aromas and flavors of wild raspberry, a touch
of cinnamon, and Bing cherry. We propose you have it with baked ham, crown roast of pork, or simply
sip it with your friends at your next party. We are guessing that it is named Pink Cat because it is tamer
than a Pink Panther?

Dogfish Head 120min IPA

May 11th, 2012

For you all looking for some Dogfish Head 120min IPA we still have plenty in stock, so come on down and pick a bottle up for yourself or a friend. The price is $9.99 for a 12oz bottle, it’s a little pricey but it’s worth it!

“Too extreme to be called beer? 120 Minute IPA is brewed to a colossal 45-degree plato, boiled for a full two hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged for another month on whole-leaf hops!

Clocking in at 15-20% ABV and 120 IBUs, 120 Minute is by far the biggest IPA ever brewed! It’s easy to see why we call this beer THE HOLY GRAIL for hopheads!

We brew 120 Minute IPA a few times a year, but it goes fast. If you find some grab a few bottles — some to enjoy and some to age.” www.dogfishbeer.com

Meet the Distiller Behind Angel’s Envy Bourbon!

March 9th, 2012

Come meet Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson of Angels Envy Bourbon. We will sample and Lincoln will personalize bottles. The tasting will be here at Midway on  Wednesday March 14, 2012 2-4pm. Our regular price for the bourbon would be $43.99, special event price of $39.99.

Angel’s Envy is a small-batch artisan bourbon crafted by a malcontent for those who refuse to settle for simply good. Aged for up to six years and finished in vintage ruby port barrels, Angel’s Envy is rich, subtle and exceptionally smooth.

Here’s a little info behind the distiller Lincoln Henderson:

Spirits are Lincoln Henderson’s life work. Since 2005, he’s served as the Master Distiller for Louisville Distilling Company, which has given him the opportunity to produce Angel’s Envy — his masterpiece. He is responsible for handcrafting every step of his bourbon. From developing the yeast cultures and personally tasting every stage to selecting the port wine casks used for the final aging process, Angel’s Envy is the distillation of his life’s work.

Before he founded Louisville Distilling Company with Wes Henderson, Lincoln spent almost forty years as Master Distiller and Research Fellow for the Brown-Forman Corporation. During his tenure, he planned, developed and produced nearly every type of distilled spirit, thoroughly proving his mastery of spirits. Chances are, you’ve tasted his work. He’s been a key speaker at seminars throughout most of Europe, Japan, and North America. As a young man, he received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Louisville.

Some Beers Back in Stock!

March 2nd, 2012

My Antonia started out as a collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra del Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy, with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October 2008. In 2010, we began brewing My Antonia here in Delaware for U.S. distribution.

Aprihop is an American IPA brewed with Pilsner and Crystal malts. It’s massively hopped — in the continuous fashion, of course! — and the flavor is complemented by the addition of apricots.

After fermentation, the beer is dry hopped with irresponsible amounts of Amarillo hops. The beer has a hoppy aroma, with the apricots playing a supporting role.

The flavor is rich with late hop flavors, and its bitterness is tempered by just the right amount of malt sweetness and fruity undertones from the apricots.

Sprecher Abbey Triple

March 2nd, 2012

Sprecher Abbey Triple has a light but malty and slightly sweet taste with a fruity bouquet on the nose. This is a very delightful beer to drink with 8.4% abv its got a punch to it without the harshness of that alcohol taste most beers give you. It also comes in a very nice blue swing top bottle. Drink it now or wait a few years to give it a more complex flavor through aging. The price is $15.99 a bottle.

New Top 12

February 27th, 2012
Top 12 Price-$114.99 Case
1.  Alvarez de Toleda Mencia 2008
Bierzo, Spain
$8.99 750 ml. $86.30 case ($7.19)
Holy Toleda!  Here’s a 90 pointer, (Wine Advocate), that will blow you away with its bouquet of fresh violets and flavors of black cherry, juicy plums, and the spice,Marjoram.  We don’t see too many of this grape variety, but each one we’ve tried, we’ve loved.  Ever made, Paella?  Well, “Google” up some recipes!
2.  Yasa Blanco Old Vines Macabeo 2010
Calatyud, Spain
$8.99 750 ml. $86.30 case ($7.19)
Our second entry from Spain, this white has been a customer favorite the last 2-3 years here at Midway, and we just could not leave it out of our Top 12, because we want to turn as many people on to it as possible.  A hugely aromatic burst of ripe citrus fruit engulfs your sense of smell.  Those fruit flavors, along with stoney mineral notes, and a touch of Taragon explode onto the palate in an eye popping fashion.  This electrifying wine is made of 100% Macabeo. We don’t care what you have it with, just drink it and savor it!  88 points (Stephan Tanzer).
3.  La Mozza  I Perazzi Morellino di Scansano 2009
Maremma, Italy
$14.99 750 ml. $143.90 case ($11.99)
We brought this in just for the sexy sounding Italian name. No, no, no, it is indeed a sexy tasting wine!  Comprised of 85 % Morellino, (the local name for Sangiovese in Maremma), 5% Syrah, 5% Alicante, 2% Colorino, and 3% Cilegiolo.  Here’s how they describe it-”…an especially sexy, juicy Morelino with fruit, underbrush, smoke and licorice nuances that emerge from its generous, plump frame.”  “Underbrush”?  Sounds like an old girlfriend, LOL!  Shrimp Fra Diavolo, meat lasagne, Parmesano Reggiano and olives come to mind.
4.  Schloss Vollrads SV Dry Riesling  2007
Oestrich-Winkel, Germany
$12.99 750 ml. $124.70 case ($10.39)
You read it correctly, 2007 vintage.  We added this wine so you could see that Rieslings do indeed age well. They’ve been making wine at this castle’s vineyards since the year 1211 for gosh sakes!  When they say “dry”, they mean it.  It is absolutely lovely, with its green apple, Seckel pear, and wild mineral notes.  Crock pot slowly cooked pork loin and sauerkraut, wunderbar!
5.  Charles Thomas Cotes du Rhone 2009
Rhone Valley, France
$8.99 750 ml.  $86.30 case ($7.19)
My goodness, this tastes like a Chateauneuf du Pape! (Well, darn close.)  It is made from 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache from the excellent 2009 vintage year.  It carries exceptional aromas and flavors of ripe cherry, wild berries, and a hint of minerals.  This is a ridiculously low price for a red wine of this caliber. Think a case!
6.  Conde Villar Alvarinho 2010
Valongo-Verde, Portugal
$12.99 750 ml. $124.70 case ($10.39)
You may be more familiar with the Spanish name for this grape, Albarino, and this has some similiarities to that wine.  It’s a “white wine” that you’ll want to hold in your mouth for a couple of seconds to savor it’s richness.  We have lots of pear, apricot, melon, and herbal flavors in this Portuguese beauty.  It’s a perfect compliment tp lemon chicken, (anybody remember “Everybody Loves Raymond”?)
7.  Cameron Hughes The Flying Winemaker Zinfandel 2009
Lodi, California
$11.99 750 ml. $114.99 case ($9.58)
We’ve shown you plenty of wines from Lodi, and most of them have been huge ” fruit bombs”.  This one is good ol’ fashioned Zin in the style of yesteryear, with significant mineral and spice aspects. You old-timers will fondly recall this style.  Rustle up some barbecued beef, pork, chicken, or shrimp.
8.  Man Vintners Chenin Blanc 2011
Stellenbosch, South Africa
$8.99 750 ml. $86.30 case (($7.19)
In South Africa they call Chenin Blanc “Steen”.  Just thought you ought to know that.  This wine is created from grapes of various vineyards throughout the region, and the main point is the balance of delicious tropical fruit and gentle acidity. we’re very high, (no, not that way), on this sturdy, refreshing white.  This is a great party wine, aperitif, or compliment to Sushi.
9.  Chateau Massiac Sentinelle de Massiac 2010
Minervois, France
$12.99 750 ml.  $124.70 case  ($10.39)
Now here we have a very serious red comprised of 75% Syrah and 25% Carignane.  Sturdy tannins surround the aromas and flavors of black currant, blackberry, and rich mineral tones.  We haven’t featured a wine from this region in a while and felt it added great balance to our other selections.  We feel you more intellectual types will find plenty to converse about with this solid red.  Find a high quality cheese,  French bread, and walnuts or almonds to munch on while you play a game of chess.
10.  Flavium Godello 2010
Bierzo, Spain
$7.99 750 ml. $76.70 case ($6.39)
This grape variety will bring you thoughts of Summertime.  The nose of pear, citrus, and fresh white flowers leads you into wonderful multi-fruit and herb flavors and cool, crisp finish.  Go healthy, and try it with Italian dressing marinated cold aparagus spears and Aseago cheese.
11.  J K Estates La Riata 2007
Paso Robles, California
$9.99 750 ml. $95.90 case ($7.99)
A new additon for us, this is a most interesting blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.  It is quite complex for a wine in this price range.  Dark berry,  juicy plum, a touch of white pepper, and iron elements will cover your palate very nicely.  Don’t you deserve a juicy prime rib?
12.  Vignoble Poiron-Dabin Pinot Gris 2010
Loire Valley, France
$11.99 750 ml. $115.10 case ($9.59)
This is, more than likely, what they were shooting for when they first started making wine from this grape.  Pinot Grigios are mostly dry, slightly acidic, and crisp at the finish, but this wine from the Loire Valley is rare and elegant.  We mean it has more tropical, pear, and apricot flavors than you would expect.  It even has a light peach color and a slight sweetness that should appeal to most palates.
Just have fun sipping it, and it could even lead to knew friendships and romances, we dare say.
